Narrative
Both the lead singer of the band who sings the words, than a character who is the main focus of the video, narrates the video. Both are given around equal time shown on the video.
At the beginning of the video, you hear a song in the background which is also another Theory Of A Deadman song, so it ties in with the band.
The band are filmed in the trailer home of the character, which ties in with the representation. The band and character meet at the end, to show they’re friends with each other.
Audience
The target audience would be people that like hard rock as well as having a laugh. Mainly men between 15-30, as young people can kind of relate towards what is being shown.
The message is easily shown that people will be who they are if they can stick with it, even if other people don’t like it.
Representative
The song represents the ‘lowlifes’ of the community and how they live.
It uses the stereotypical low life, who doesn’t care much for their appearance, only care for themselves and take whatever they can to their advantage.
They use a trailer home in the song, showing that he is that typical lowlife. They use locations that fit in with the lyrics of the song, such as using a football pitch in the first verse. They also use a bowling ally and a convince store with tie in together so it all works together.
The first shot is a meat shot of the lead singer this is typical of music video's as they as seen as the front man/women and who people take the most notice of. I like the close up of the guitar as its a very stereotypical shot for a rock music video. The third shot is effective as we get to see the full band in one shot and as they are bouncing/moshing it looks really effective. The fourth and fifth shots are very similar as they show the backing singers, although they use different angles and the third is a medium close up and the fourth is a close up. I like the sixth shot, it is a medium close up of the drummer, the reason i like this shot is because the drummer is very energetic. There are a lot of other shots similar to shot seven, this is relevant as the song is called 'Pages' and one of the lyrics is 'We change as we get older'. Shot eight is very effective as we get the see the vibrations of the symbol it is also quite an unpopular shot so we aren't a custom to seeing it. Again shot 9 is of the lead singer, i chose to use this shot again to show that the lead singer is shown a lot thought out the video.
This Magazine article Is about a band called 'you me at six' in this article they are promoting their new album. They build each song up by describing them individually and aiming each song at a certain audience, by doing this it encourages more people to buy the album as it has a range of different genres in. They also talk about how they have asked "Oli Sykes' (from Bring me the horizon) and 'Winston McCall' (Parkway drive's lead vocals) By doing this it will entice fans from these two bands too.
The transitions of this video are syncopated to the beat this helps the video flow better as they help visualise the sounds as well as hearing them. At 3:53 the photographs change on the drumbeat, this helps create a climax to the solo.
The singer of avenged sevenfold seems to be narrating the video as in my opinion the shots of the younger version of the band are memories, maybe this is his way of showing everyone what “the rev” (the drummer) was like and how much they miss him.
The narrative of this music video is about their drummer who has recently passed away. The video shows the bands life together ranging from a very young age up until the present day in which they are without him. The performance is very convincing as their emotions are real because they are grieving their friend and band member. Also the actors they hired to play them as children and teenagers resemble the band members so it makes the story line more believable.
The rock star image is presented in this as all of the band members are wearing mostly black and have many tattoos. Although the stereotype is slightly subverted, as rock stars are well known for not caring and being energetic, as this song is very meaningful to them it is better suited to be unenergetic and emotional.
There is a lyric in this son “place in time, always on my mind” at this moment we see the young Avenged Sevenfold sat out side of a shop, then it transitions to the band driving past the shop, this is slightly illustrative as we’re seeing the place that’s on his mind.
A lot of close up shots of the instuments are used, this is typical of music vieo of this genre as it helps show the rhythem of the song. Also during the flash backs the young bandmates are always positioned close to each others to show their realationships, whereas when the band members are on screen they are quite distant from one another,this may show that the tragedy of "the rev" dying has made them drift apart and hide their feelings. There is a close up shot of the rev caving his real name (Jimmy) into a table, although he doesnt manage to finish it as we only see him write "Jimm" this could represent that he didnt get to live his whole life, and there was still things left for him to do. Towards the end of the video some home videos are show, obviously these shots are handheld. The last shot on this video is a handheld home video clip of the band mates hugging the rev, i think this is a very touching last clip as it shows how much they loved him.
The editing is fast paced this could show that the bamd thought that the time the had with the rev went quick and he was lost suddenly. There as a lot of cross fades used, this may like to the fact that all their memorys of the rev are fading into each other and becoming overwheming.
The young band members are wearing typical clothing for teenages who like rock music, one is wearing an Iron Maiden top, which is very common in rock lovers, thoughout the duration of the young band members growing up they always stick to similar clothing alothough the clothes progessivly get darker, dark clothing is typical for rock bands. The actual band member as all wearing dark clothing, although they look smart. This could maybe hint about the funeral.
We selected a song to lip sync called My Jeans by Jenna Rose. No one apart from me was up for actually lip syncing, so I was given the task of being the person lip syncing. We would tried to put images to the words, so for "Staring out my window", we got a shot of me looking through some glass. We do this for other shots throughout the video. During editing, we used a variation of colours and effects on text during the video. So whenever the song said OMG, we would have the words OMG come up in colour on the screen. With the gerne being pop, we tried to put in some dancing in because in most pop videos, you see people dancing.
This task allowed us to use final cut, which will help us when we come to editing our final music video. It also allowed us to know how we could improve it, such as learning the words before and actually singing the song with it, too get a realist looking lip sync.
The first frame is an establishing shot of the characters home. It is shown through a stripped down car, shows the messy outside of the motorhome and you see the character walk out in his robe, showing he does not care for either himself or his surroundings.
The second frame shows the guitarist in the band using one of the beer bottles laying around the motorhome as a slider. This shows us that the character is a typical 'lowlife' and lays about drinking alcohol.
The 3rd frame shows the singer/guitarist playing in the back of the characters home. It has a blurred out shot of the rubbish such as the beer bottle infront but focuses on the singer.
The 4th frame shows the character taking the opportunity to take what isn't his, even if it is someones food. Showing how he disregards others if he gets the chance.
The 5th frame is of the singer in the home of the character, but it shows you the view from someone looking in from the outside. He raises his fit as he sings the words 'put up a fight', so it works together.
The 6th frame shows the character lying on the ground with a bottle of alcohol in his hand. This is shown to the lyircs "I'll be sleeping like a baby tonight"
The 7th frame shows the character being congratulated by other people, even though he this lowlife person, who no one should really care about, showing a juxtaposition.
The 8th shows the character coming to his cluttered home, with the look of joy on his face because he has been congratulated from the people, for basically being who he is.
The 9th frame shows the band and the character walking away as friends, while the motorhome explodes behind them all.
